Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) -TWRS Painting Contractors, The Woodlands TX

Why should I hire a professional painter?

There are many reasons to hire a professional to paint your home or office. Besides being more time efficient hiring painting contractors ensures your project meets health codes, is properly prepped and cleaned up, and provides a professional finish.

Before deciding to "do it yourself" or hire the cheapest painter in the phone book, there are several factors that suggest the lowest price may not be the best investment.

Safety - Painting can be hazardous work, whether it's working on a ladder, dealing with solvents and dust or disposing of hazardous materials.

Health - If your building / home was finished before 1978, it was most likely painted with a lead-based paint (this can cause serious health effects when it is scraped or sanded in preparation for repainting.) A professional contractor will take appropriate steps to protect you and safety work environment. Always ask for EPA painting contractor certificate. Hiring a professional painting contractor means that you don't have to worry about these problems or future issues.

How do I choose the right painting contractor?

Once you have decided to hire a professional contractor for a particular project, selecting the right person or firm becomes a matter of price, size of company, and amount of years in business.

Do you protect the homeowner’s property when painting?

Yes, our painters cover all areas with plastic, builders paper, masking paper and tape. Our painting crews protect all your furniture, fixtures, and floor coverings when they prepare the area, however we ask that you clear the room of small items and breakables. We can also move the bigger items for you.

What quality of paint do you use?

If you want the best value for your money, don’t let your contractor talk you into skimping on the paint quality just so they can give you a lower bid and come back sooner to paint your house again.

The most important benefit is the tremendous saving in hours of work (and money if you are paying to have the paint applied). Two factors affect this time saving:

High quality paint generally covers better than less expensive paints - so less is needed. And less time is needed to apply it

High quality paint lasts longer, in some cases two to three times longer.

Do you do good preparation?

Yes, we provide extensive interior and exterior house painting preparation work. Getting the surface properly prepared makes all the difference (the best materials perform poorly if the preparation is not proper.) Professional contractors know the value of preparation and will do it right.

Repair scratches, nail holes and imperfections in walls and ceilings

Sanding, de-glossing, caulking, wood filler repairs and bonding primer to trim, baseboards and doors.

Do you provide touch up paint after you are finished with the project?

We sure do! Once we've completed painting, we provide all the leftover paint for the touch-ups. We can also remove and properly dispose of your old paint as well

How long does the job take?

The length of a project varies. Most of the residential painting we do can be completed in less than a week; however we also have jobs which take upwards of two weeks. Commercial painting projects can take longer depending on the size of the building(s). Throughout the entire project, we make sure to keep you very informed of the timeline. If we think the project may take longer than expected, we let you know right away.

What kind of warranty do you provide?

With our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, we guarantee that you will be 100% satisfied with the quality of our workmanship and the products that we use. We will perform a thorough walk-through with you prior to completing your project to ensure that you are happy with every detail. We also offer 1- Year warranty in workmanship.

Do I need to use a special paint in the bathroom and kitchen?

In areas with high amounts of water/humidity or food preparation, we use a mildew-resistant paint which provides a durable, easy-to-clean finish.

Can I paint over wallpaper?

The simple answer is yes, but, as with all painting projects, the surface must be properly prepared. Any loose paper must be removed. The surface must be smoothed with spackle or wallboard compound so that seams and patches do not show. Finally, if water based paint is to be the coating, the wallpaper must be sealed with and oil or alkyd based sealer. Proper preparation and textured walls, seams won’t be visible.

Can I refinishing my kitchen cabinets?

Yes, if your paint (or stain, or veneer) is worn and dirty from use, painting over it is often a viable solution. Sanding or scraping the existing finish is a necessary first step, as is removing the handles or pulls. In some cases it’s possible to use a deglossing agent instead of sanding or scraping, on surfaces that have a glossy finish, Apply bonding primers and spray top coats to cabinets to avoid streak marks or brush marks.

Can I refinish my kitchen staining cabinets in other staining color?

Yes if you have wood cabinets, staining with other color the wood will preserve and emphasize the natural wood grain. Many people prefer this look to paint, and it can be done without too much hassle. The wood will need to be sanded very smooth; some surface may need a conditioner applied before the stain to ensure even coverage and coloring. The stain is typically applied with a brush and then rubbed into the wood with a cloth, Apply 2 coats sand and sealer, to assure smooth surface and spray top coats (Matte or satin clear coat). This process produce hassle fumes and strong odors, we advice our customers don’t stay in their homes until the process are done. (Fumes typically disappear by late afternoon)
